Annual General Meeting 2022

A reminder to the Saskatoon Cycles membership: our Annual General Meeting is open to all members and will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 7:00pm on Zoom. This is a great opportunity to join us as we review the past year, celebrate all that we’ve accomplished together, and look ahead to the year to come.

Items of business to take place at our AGM are:

  • Review and approval of the 2021/22 Financials
  • Review and approval of the 2021/22 Board Report
  • Election of the 2022-23 Board of Directors
  • An Opportunity to Ask Questions and Stay Informed

In addition to our regular business items we are excited to have guests Jeff Hehn (Fatlanders FatTire Brigade) and Cheryl Siemens (Pedal Wenches) to speak on this year’s discussion topic: Bridging Sport and Everyday Cycling.

Deadline for board nominations or motions from the membership is October 31, 2022 by emailing nominations@saskatooncycles.org.

ZenZED Update

The FREE bicycle courier service ZenZED (Zen, Zero Emission Delivery) has been busy this past month. We signed up two new business members, Alt Haus Interior Design and Turning the Tide Bookstore, recruited some additional couriers, and have streamlined our delivery interface to make the whole process smoother. We anticipate some additional new business announcements soon, so stay tuned to our social media platforms for details!

Remember, thanks to the incredibly generous support of our primary project partner The Better Good, all delivery costs are FREE for ZenZED bicycle shipments (some conditions apply). Now you can have the convenience of home delivery, the sense of community that comes from shopping local, and peace of mind from reducing carbon emissions, all at no extra cost to you!

Our intrepid couriers are year-round cyclists, so our intention is to continue this amazing service throughout the fall, winter, and spring season! Don’t let the weather talk you out of taking advantage of delivery to your doorstep!

The following ZenZED businesses all have an option on their websites to make your shopping as smooth as possible:

Please support these great shops and advance the concept of lower carbon delivery at the same time.

Visit our ZenZED page to learn more about the conditions that apply to deliveries, as well as opportunities for potential businesses or couriers.

Giving Tuesday

Chances are good that you’ve heard about Black Friday and Cyber Monday (so many sales!), but are you as familiar with Giving Tuesday? givingtuesday.ca describes the day like this:

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. The idea caught on and has grown around the world, inspiring hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

As an advocacy non-profit organization, Saskatoon Cycles’ operations and programs (Bike Valet, Slow Rolls, ZenZED, etc.) rely entirely on the generosity of others. Please consider us on Giving Tuesday, this year on November 29 (though we do graciously accept donations anytime before and after!).

You can donate here.

Nuit Blanche 2022

Thanks to the over 60 cyclists who joined us for this year’s “Slow Glow Roll” at Nuit Blanche! Saskatoon cyclists of all ages were well represented (and colorfully lighted!) and we’re already looking forward to next year.

Spotlights

Hey, Saskatoon cyclists, remember we’re always looking to throw the spotlight on you and your stories! Not only does it give us a chance to show you off, but it helps us learn more about who is cycling and where, and gives the whole city an idea of how diverse and commonplace city cycling can be. The more the merrier!

You can share a bit about yourself, your ride, and your experiences here.

Global Gathering Place – Ride for Refuge

Saskatoon Cycles was happy to be a part of this year’s Ride for Refuge in support of Global Gathering Place. The event raised 139% of the fundraising goal in Saskatoon, and 124% nationally (over $1,000,000!).

Ours was a small but mighty team; with only three cyclists participating, our generous supporters shot us to 5th place in the overall fundraising standings in just over a week of planning.

Thanks to everyone who rode and/or donated. It was a beautiful day for a really good cause. With any luck, we’ll make September 23, 2023 even bigger!
