Spotlight on Erin: The Trailblazer

Erin was the first Saskatoon cyclist to willingly step into the spotlight! Thanks, Erin!

Tell us about your bike!

I ride a 2018 Kona Mahuna. I haven’t made crazy adjustments to it, it’s got some aftermarket handgrips, fancy pedals (in green of course), aero bars, and an adorable french bulldog bell, with a recently replaced drivetrain and brand new tires. I love it. My bike is my best friend.

Tell us about you: What’s your favourite route to ride in Saskatoon?

I was born and raised in Saskatoon. I’m married and have a 2 year-old French bulldog named Kiki, who is learning to ride with me in a special backpack I bought for her. Every year, since 2015, I fundraise and ride for Canadian kids fighting cancer through the SickKids Foundation’s Great Cycle Challenge. This year I pledged to ride 1000km between Aug 1-31 and hope to raise over $2500. My biggest personal challenge yet! My favorite ride is usually when it’s spent on the dirt trails around the river. It’s a different experience every time!

What single change would improve your Saskatoon cycling experience most?

More routes to get from the east side to the west side on the north end. I would love to do a full circle around the city but 51st and Circle Drive are not cycle-friendly.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or experienced while you were cycling?

Not sure how wild you would rate this but my favorite sighting was a little pack of baby foxes in a den this past spring! It was super cute.

What’s your favourite activity when you’re not cycling?

If not cycling, you might find me kayaking on the river in my bright green kayak!

Anything else you’d like us to know about cycling in Saskatoon?

There’s lots to experience when you try a new adventure!
