MEMBERSHIP IN SASKATOON CYCLES
Thank you for considering membership in Saskatoon Cycles!
When you become a member of Saskatoon Cycles, you help us advocate for new, expanded, or better places to ride throughout the city. We engage at City Hall with both elected officials and administration staff to keep active transportation issues on the front burner with a steady, constructive voice. The more members contributing to that voice, the more clout we have.
By joining Saskatoon Cycles, you also connect to activities and programs that educate, support, and encourage more people to ride and enjoy the freedom of being on a bicycle. There is strength in numbers at every level of our work.
Paid memberships
These are what provide the stable, “no-strings” funding that allow us to invest in all kinds of projects we believe will move the needle on cycling here in Saskatoon. The more “investment memberships” we can get, the more work we can do. If you can afford to help us “gear up” and launch Saskatoon into a next-level cycling city, please join us!
We won’t turn anyone away from having a voice in cycling in Saskatoon. If you can’t afford a “Gear Membership” you can choose your own amount, including $0, by selecting Low Income/Student and be a member in good standing.
Everyone who agrees with our Mission, Vision and Priorities and wants membership in Saskatoon Cycles is welcome, even if you’re not able to afford membership fees. All members receive our monthly email newsletter as well as periodic emails about Saskatoon Cycles’ activities and events.
Benefits
Members get discounts on Saskatoon Cycles merchandise and reduced entrance fees on paid events that we put on. Members are eligible for 10% off regularly priced bicycle parts and accessories at all participating bike shops (some exceptions may apply, see stores for details). The who and why of being a Saskatoon Cycles’ member!
Saskatoon Cycles members are recreational, commuting, utility, and sport cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists. Yes, folks who are primarily motorists are members too. Our members are anyone who agrees Saskatoon would be a better place in which to live, work, and get around if we had better transportation infrastructure. A really important part of that is separating vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians on different pathways.
However, it’s not a zero sum game. Providing separated cycling and pedestrian pathways encourages more people to use active transportation (walking, rolling, cycling, etc.) because those methods of travel are instantly safer and more comfortable with better infrastructure. With more people choosing these modes of transportation, vehicular traffic congestion is reduced, which improves everyone’s driving experience. It might seem counterintuitive, but better cycling infrastructure makes the roads better for everyone.
There is also very strong evidence that more cycling and pedestrian features improves the local economy as well. People on bikes, similar to walkers, can stop at shops they pass much easier than someone in a vehicle, and they do!
We’re looking forward to having your voice join ours when we talk to decision makers about the benefits of giving people green, efficient, healthy, energy effective options to get around Saskatoon.
Thank you for joining us in making Saskatoon a place where cycling is a viable, year-round mode of transportation that is safe, convenient, and comfortable for all ages!
