Join Slow Roll on Monday, Sept 7th to celebrate life, passion of safe cycling advocate Cathy Watts

From Facebook post by Hilary Gough

Please join us for a bike ride on Monday morning to celebrate the love that Cathy Watts bring to our community and our lives. Please feel free to invite others who are friends of Cathy’s. Her family has endorsed this event. Cathy suffered a massive stroke earlier this week. She has been in hospital since and is being transported home to receive palliative care in the company of her beloved family.

MEET UP: Meet with your bike at 10:30 am on Monday in front of D’Lish by Tish (702 14th St E) in the pocket park (that Cathy pushed the city to create and keep). Please observe appropriate physical distance from those outside of your bubble. We don’t know how many people to expect. If the area is full when you arrive, please line up down the curbside of the road to maintain distance and to stay safe from traffic.

ACTION: At 11am we’ll bike to Cathy’s. While we roll by, we’ll make lots of noise and show our love for Cathy and her family. Her family knows we’re coming. Cathy is unlikely to be able to be at the window, but they’ll make sure she can hear us and I know she’ll feel our love. Her home is a short bike from D’Lish, so the ride won’t be long. I expect we’ll be all wrapped up by 11:30 (noon at the latest).

ATTITUDE: I know we’re all shocked and sad. So is Cathy’s family. As much as possible, let’s treat this as an opportunity to bring Cathy and her loved ones some JOY! We all know Cathy as someone who celebrates what life has to offer. Let’s celebrate her.

ATTIRE: Please consider dressing up and/or decorating your bike in celebration. Streamers and noisemakers are encouraged. Also, remember to dress warmly since the weather is meant to be quite cool!

See you Monday.

In community,
Hilary
