5th ANNUAL ICE CYCLE

February 1, 2014

Saskatoon Cycles wants you to grab your mitts and helmets!

“Saskatoon Cycles is proud to announce that the Ice Cycle is back for a 5th straight year and we can’t wait to get  ‘the coldest bicycle ride on the planet’ underway”, exclaims Kamil Rogowski, Ice Cycle Coordinator.

Ice Cycle 2014 will take place on Saturday, February 1st, 2014 at the Saskatoon’s Farmer Market.  Starting at 415pm riders will be asked to gather at Ave B South and 19th St West.  The ride will begin at 430pm and will wind its way through downtown Saskatoon, with a police escort, back to the Farmer’s Market by approximately 500pm.

“This year the route will include both 4th Ave and 24th Street in support of the Better Bike Lanes project” explains Kamil.  Better Bike Lanes (www.betterbikelanes.ca) is a project by Saskatoon Cycles aimed at bringing better and safer cycling infrastructure to downtown Saskatoon this summer.

Following the ride, all participants and supporters are invited to gather inside the Farmer’s Market for some live, local music.  There will also be beer from Prairie Sun Brewery and food for purchase, with proceeds going to Saskatoon Cycles.

The Ice Cycle after-party will be a great opportunity for Saskatoon’s cycling community to come together and celebrate winter cycling in Saskatoon!

“You don’t need to be a winter cyclist to take part in Ice Cycle”, Kamil clarifies. “In fact, the majority of those who took part in our past four events were not winter cyclists. You don’t need any special winter gear to join in, just bring your bike and make sure your chain is oiled and your brakes are working and have fun!”

“Everyone, young or old, is encouraged to come out and take part, we just want to remind everyone to dress for the weather and that we will be riding snow or shine!”
