Connecting Millar Ave Survey – closes Feb. 25
The Connecting Millar Ave project is in its third round of engagement, and the City of Saskatoon wants to gather feedback on the preferred design option for incorporating walking and cycling facilities along Millar Avenue and 43rd Street East between Millar Avenue and the Canadian National (CN) railway tracks.
The preferred design option includes a 3-metre wide shared use pathway on both sides of Millar Avenue. For 43rd Street East from Millar Avenue to the CN railway, the design is a 3-metre wide shared-use pathway on the north side and a 1.8-metre sidewalk on the south side of the roadway.
Saskatoon Cycles supports this design option. We feel it will provide maximum access for cyclists, people walking, and people using transit where none currently exists, without unduly impacting existing traffic patterns. In particular, the shared use pathways on both sides of Millar is a positive development for both ease of use and safety.
We would like to see more continuous cycling encouraged (where cyclists are not obligated to dismount frequently), and greater attention paid to safety at intersections, but realize that some features may be outside of the scope of this project.
Weigh in with your thoughts, and let the city know what you think! The survey is only open until February 25, so don’t delay!
